Chinook Salmon Catch Limits and Regulations

  • Southeast Alaska Catch Limit: The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) has set the 2025 preseason all-gear catch limit for Chinook salmon in Southeast Alaska at 133,500 fish, in accordance with the Pacific Salmon Treaty. To prevent exceeding this limit, ADF&G has implemented a 2% buffer, targeting a total catch of 130,850 Chinook salmon. The allocation is distributed among various fishing sectors as follows:​
    • Commercial Purse Seine: 5,620 fish​
    • Commercial Drift Gillnet: 3,800 fish​
    •  Commercial Set Gillnet: 1,000 fish​
    •  Commercial Troll: 92,730 fish​
    • Sport: 27,700 fish​
  • Sport Fishing Regulations: Effective April 3, 2025, through April 30, 2026, new sport fishing regulations for king salmon have been announced for Southeast Alaska and Yakutat. Specific restrictions are in place for areas adjacent to the Stikine River, where the retention of king salmon is prohibited from April 1 to July 14, 2025. Alaska Fish and Game

Conservation Measures for Gulf of Alaska Chinook Salmon

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has introduced unprecedented conservation measures to protect Chinook salmon populations in the Gulf of Alaska. These measures include restrictions on western Alaska king salmon fisheries, affecting regions such as Kodiak, Chignik, and Sand Point. Federal Harvest Specifications for Cook Inlet

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has proposed the 2025 harvest specifications for the salmon fishery in the Cook Inlet exclusive economic zone (EEZ). This action aims to establish harvest limits for salmon during the 2025 fishing year, aligning with the goals of the Fishery Management Plan for Salmon Fisheries in the EEZ off Alaska. ​Federal Register

Board of Fisheries Proposal Deadline

The Alaska Board of Fisheries is accepting proposed changes to various fishing regulations, including subsistence, personal use, sport, guided sport, and commercial fishing. These proposals pertain to regions such as Bristol Bay; Arctic, Yukon, Kuskokwim; Alaska Peninsula, Aleutian Islands, Chignik; and Statewide finfish management areas. Herring Fishery Challenges
